    Fluffy American Pancakes

    The Teenage Chef

    These American Pancakes are light and fluffy and filled with flavour. They are perfect for breakfast, especially on Shrove Tuesday. You can add a handful of berries before cooking to make the mixture burst with more flavour.

    Prep time: 15 minutes

    Cook time: 10 minutes

    Easy Recipe

    Makes 6

    Ingredients:

    140g sieved plain flour;

    1tsp sieved baking powder;

    1 tsp salt;

    2tbsp caster sugar;

    110ml semi-skimmed or full fat milk;

    1 large egg;

    30g melted, unsalted butter, plus extra for cooking.

    Recipe:

    Sift the flour and baking powder into a large mixing bowl, along with the caster sugar and salt. In a separate bowl, mix the milk and egg together. Then whisk in the melted butter and let the batter stand for 5 minutes.

    Heat a non-stick frying pan over a medium heat and add a knob of butter. Once the butter has melted, take a ladle of batter and pour in a small circular motion onto your pan. Cook the pancakes on one side for 3 minutes or until the start to turn brown underneath and flip over to cook on the other side. Cook until both sides of the pancake are golden-brown.

    Repeat until all the batter is used.

    Best served warm!
